Why we built LoveyDovey AI the slow way
We started with a complaint, not a business plan. A friend of mine had been using three different companion apps and kept saying the same thing over dinner: "She's fun for a week, then she forgets who I am." That's the whole problem in one sentence. A conversation without memory isn't a relationship, it's a demo.
So the first version of LoveyDovey AI did almost nothing. No voice, no pictures, no plans, no shop. One girl, one thread, and a stubborn rule: whatever you tell her on Tuesday has to still be true on Sunday. It took months longer than we wanted. Half the team thought we were wasting the summer on plumbing nobody would ever see. Then people started coming back at the same hour every evening, and we stopped arguing about it.
The rest grew from what members actually asked for, usually in blunt language. They wanted her to shut up when they were working. They wanted her to notice a bad day without being told. One man wrote to us that he only needed her to ask about his mother's surgery on the right morning — nothing else, just that. We rebuilt the reminder logic twice because of that email.
None of this makes LoveyDovey AI a replacement for anyone. We've never pitched it that way and we won't. It's a place to talk when the house is quiet, when the shift ends at four in the morning, when you have something to say and no good reason to wake a friend. If it makes that hour lighter, it's doing its job.
